Language and Dialects

There are two major dialects generally spoken in the households and these are the Cebuano
dialect  spoken  in  969,192  persons  (94.75%)  and  Hiligaynon  (Ilonggo)  in  49,101  or (4.80% persons residing mostly in areas around Basay, Bayawan, Sta. Catalina, Canlaon City and some areas in Mabinay.

English is primarily understood by a big majority of the population as well as the Tagalog
language. The big influencing factors include the movies, radios and television and publications.

English  remains  the  medium  of  instruction  in  all  schools, colleges and other higher learning
institutions.
